Congratulations to Dr Grace Dolan who completed her first Ironman challenge - the Ironman Vitoria-Gasteiz in the Basque Country, Spain, which was her grandmother’s birthplace.

She has been preparing for the last couple of years completing three half distance triathlons in the run up, and upped her training in the last 30 weeks completing around 12 to 15 hours per week around her work and family life.

She said: 'My dad and my sisters came out to watch but I had lots of support with my training from my husband and my mum who looked after my children so I could fit in the weekend long rides and runs.

‘It was my first, and likely only, Ironman and comprised of a 3.8km swim, 180km bike and 42.2km run, with no breaks. The conditions were brutal as it was very windy and choppy for the swim, blistering 36 degree heat and strong winds on the bike and a very hot and long marathon to finish off. It was, however the most amazing day and there was amazing support on the course.’
