Volunteer drivers needed

Are you a good driver, with your own vehicle, who would like to help transport patients to and from healthcare appointments.

If so, please consider volunteering for The Hereward Voluntary Car Service.

The Hereward Voluntary Car Service is currently being set up to help transport patients to and from surgery and hospital appointments. This will be particularly beneficial for those without access to transport or who live in rural locations.

They are inviting applications from volunteer drivers who would be willing to transport patients safely and efficiently to hospital or GP appointments. The drivers will liaise with coordinators around bookings, pick-ups, routes and mileage. Volunteer drivers will be recompensed for the mileage incurred.

When the scheme starts later this year, patients from The Hereward Practice will be able to phone up a booking line to request transport to and from appointments and they will be charged a nominal sum to cover mileage costs. Full details about the scheme and how to book will be circulated nearer the launch time.

Tony Cushing, from the Patient Participation Group said: ‘We would love to hear from experienced and safe drivers from the local area, who are willing to use their own vehicles to help our patient community. If people want more details or would like to volunteer then please telephone 0759 731 7001. We will be releasing more information about the service and how to book when we have all the necessary arrangements in place.’
